Benfield
July 9, 1949 – August 19, 2024
Brent Eugene Benfield, of Perkasie, PA, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at Peter Becker Community, Harleysville, PA. He was 75.
He was the loving husband of Ruth Ann (Landis) Benfield. The couple had celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on January 5, 2024.
Born in Quakertown, PA, he was the son of the late LeRoy A. and Joyce M. (Bergstresser) Benfield.
Brent was a 1967 graduate of Pennridge High School, Perkasie, PA, where he played Varsity Football.
He was a proud U. S. Navy Reserves Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served active duty on the USS Coucal ASR-8 touring Hawaii, Taiwan, the Philippines and Japan until his honorable discharge on January 31, 1974.
Brent worked with the Mail Services Union, his most recent assignment with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia, PA, for 10 years until retiring in 2014. Previously, he worked at the American Baptist Convention, King of Prussia, PA, for over 30 years.
He was a member of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, Blooming Glen, PA, where he taught Bible School along with his wife.
A member of the North Penn Combine-Pigeon Club for over 30 years, Brent loved homing pigeons, raising and flying them from 1960 until 2018. Most of all, he loved taking care of his family and spending time with them.
Surviving with his wife are three children, Brenda A. Homony and her husband William, of Hatfield, PA, Melisa A. Lauf and her husband Ian, of Perkasie, PA, and Brian L. Benfield and his wife Tiffany, of Harleysville, PA; eleven grandchildren, William, Brendan, Aidan, Brianna, Arianne, Mason, Savannah, Carolina, Alex, Madelyn and Avery; three brothers, Barry Benfield and his wife Nancy, of Perkasie, PA, Bruce Benfield and his wife Ann, of Quakertown, PA, and Craig Benfield, of Quakertown, PA; and two sisters, Linda J. Benfield-Grass and her husband Dr. John Haines, of Ambler, PA, and Lisa Adelman and her husband Steve, of Doylestown, POA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Benfield, in 1991.
His Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the adjacent Church Cemetery.
