Betty Jean Way, 88, of Telford, passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Community at Telford on February 12, 2024.
Born in Telford, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Willard Hunsberger and Grace (Shade) Hunsberger.
Betty Jean married her high school sweetheart, Walter L. "Buzz" Way in 1955. The two celebrated 56 years of marriage when he passed away in 2012.
A graduate of Souderton High School Class of 1953, Betty Jean was first employed with the Souderton Area School District as an Administrative Assistant. She then went to work for Union National Bank, as an Executive Secretary, working her way up to becoming the Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Betty Jean retired in 1996, after 31 years at the bank.
Betty Jean was a lifelong member of her beloved St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Telford. There she served as Sunday School teacher for many years, and in 1974 was elected as one of the first two women to serve on St. Paul's church council.
She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a long-standing member of the Indian Valley Women's Club, and was very active in organizing her high school class reunion. She was passionate and committed to serving her community.
Betty Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by a son, Christopher Way and his wife Debbie of Pennsburg, and a daughter, Colleen Klingman and her husband John of Telford, three grandchildren: AshLee (Klingman) Eustace and her husband Bill, Peter Klingman and his wife Sherry, and Jennifer (Way) Herrmann and her husband Andrew. Betty Jean also greatly enjoyed her five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Capt. Robert S. Hunsberger and Rev. David L. Hunsberger.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 12:30 PM in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 107 W. Lincoln Ave., Telford, PA 18969. Interment will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the above address.
Arrangements are by the Sadler-Suess Funeral Home & Crematory, 33 N. Main Street, Telford, PA 18969.
