June 14, 1943 – October 25, 2024
Barry L. Heckenswiler, of Sellersville, PA, and formerly of Perkasie, PA, and Punta Gorda, FL, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living, Dublin, PA. He was 81.
He was the loving husband of Lesley J. (Bryant) Heckenswiler. The couple had celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary on December 12, 2023.
Born in Sellersville, PA, he was the son of the late Walter A. and Dorothy A. (Mantz) Heckenswiler. He was a 1962 graduate of Pennridge High School, Perkasie, PA.
Mr. Heckenswiler served as a patrolman and detective with the Perkasie Police Department for over 30 years until retiring in 2001. Previously, he worked part-time as a police officer for the Telford Police Department, Telford, PA, and, earlier, he was employed by the Sellersville Police Department, Sellersville, PA
He was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Hilltown, PA.
A member of the MacCalla-Shiloh Lodge No. 558, Souderton, PA, and the Perkasie Historical Society, Mr. Heckenswiler was a former member of both the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1539, Sellersville, and the Perkasie Owls Club Nest No. 1224. He volunteered for many years with Perkasie Town Watch.
A camping enthusiast, he was a member of the Airstream RV Club, serving as President of the Airstream International Club from 2011-2012. He logged over 100,000 miles traveling with his Airstream throughout the United States and Canada over the years. Mr. Heckenswiler was especially fond of collecting guns, stamps, coins and matchbox cars.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Robert S. Heckenswiler and his girlfriend Christine Kelly, of Trumbauersville, PA, and Michael L. Heckenswiler, of Perkasie, PA; three grandchildren, Michael, Nicole and Sean; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Heckenswiler, of Quakertown, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
CHANGE TO EARLIER LISTED DATE OF SERVICE: Family and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service to be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1634 Hilltown Pike, Hilltown, PA. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Good Shepherd Episcopal Cemetery, Hilltown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
