Anthony (Tony) W. Salmon, Jr. (98) of Lansdale PA passed away on March 28, 2026. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lera (Morgan) Salmon who passed away in 2016. Tony was preceded in death by his sister Ann Laub and his stepsister Edith Jameson.
Tony was born in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia to Anthony W. Salmon, Sr. of England and Helen Johnson of Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Central High and Temple University, both in Philadelphia. In the 50’s he was the Superintendent of Sunday School and a member of the Vestry at Christ Church of St. Michaels.
Tony proudly served in two branches of the Armed Forces. At the age of 17, with his parents' permission, he joined the U.S. Navy just prior to the end of World War II and was briefly stationed in Corpus Christi TX. Later, he was a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army’s Second Division and was stationed on Koje-Do Island during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
After the Korean War, Tony briefly worked for his father-in-law, Charles P. Morgan of Philadelphia, as a sales representative in the cutting tools business. In 1954, he joined the Sealtest Dairy Company as a management trainee. He spent 14 years at Sealtest in Philadelphia and Baltimore rising to the position of District Sales Manager. In 1968, he joined the Farmbest Dairy Company as their Regional General Manager based in Bristol, Tennessee. From there Tony joined Alexander Proudfoot, a management consulting company, where he worked in numerous capacities based in Ft. Washington, PA before retiring in 1984.
Tony had a passion for travel and took his family on many trips in the USA including many national parks. Later, he and Lera traveled the world together visiting Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. During their trips he was an avid photographer. Tony and Lera built a home in the Poconos where he did all the interior finishes himself assisted by his son, Richard. He loved boating on Lake Wallenpaupack. Tony had two other hobbies – trains and wood working. He had a train layout in his garage up until a few years ago. He loved making things from clocks to cabinets and other pieces of furniture for his family.
Tony is survived by his three children Robert, Barbara and Richard, his two daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren, a great granddaughter and a soon to be 2nd great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law who passed away in late 2000.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2026, to be held in the Derstine Chapel at Dock Woods Living Branches Community. The Derstine Chapel is located at 275 Dock Drive, Lansdale, Pa 19446. Visitation begins at 10:30 AM, Services at 11:00 AM with lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Living Branches Benevolent Care Fund, 275 Dock Drive, Lansdale, PA 19446.
Arrangements are by the Suess-Gahman Funeral Home & Crematory, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA.
