Phyllis S. Bryde, 84, a resident of the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge, Maryland passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Phyllis coped with Alzheimerís disease over the past several years and her family is very grateful to the medical professionals who cared for her during the course of this disease.

Born in 1928 in Windber, Pennsylvania, Phyllis was the oldest child and only daughter of the late Gladys and Wallace Snyder. At the age of 6, her father was killed in a mining accident, leaving her mother a widow with three children. When Phyllis was a teenager, her family moved to Akron, Ohio, where she graduated from Akron High School. In 1948, Phyllis received a Registered Nursing degree from the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing.

Pursing her career in nursing, Phyllis moved to the greater Philadelphia area where she met her husband to be, John M. Bryde, Jr. They were married in Quakertown, Pennsylvania in 1951. Several years after marrying, Phyllis left nursing to concentrate on her growing family. After raising their children in West Milford, New Jersey, for 47 years, she and her husband John, retired to Woolford, Maryland, in 2001.

Over the years in her free time, Phyllis enjoyed a variety of handcrafts such as crocheting and ceramics. She took satisfaction in completing the daily crossword puzzle in any local newspaper. One of her most favorite possessions was a cherry red bowling ball, a gift from her husband, which she used as a member of various bowling teams during her more active years.

In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by their five children: Susan Bryde and her husband Daniel Siegel of New York, Beverly Sowers and her husband Scott Sowers of Virginia, Rebecca Zajac and her husband Daniel Zajac of Pennsylvania, Jeffrey Bryde and his wife Amy Bryde of New Jersey, and Joy Bryde of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by their son Timothy Bryde in 1954. Her five grandchildren are Justin Bryde, Taylor Bryde, Jessica Zajac, Hayley Bryde, and Jennifer Zajac. She is also survived by her brother Wallace Snyder and predeceased by her brother Thomas Snyder.
