Vern Pulley, christened Clarence Vernon Pulley, of Hilltown Twp., PA, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at his home. He was 72.

He was the husband of Patricia A. (Brand) Pulley. The couple had celebrated their 39th Wedding Anniversary on December 22, 2012.

Born in Raleigh, NC, he was the son of the late Clarence Edward Pulley and the late Eula Mae (Allen) Kirk. He attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, NC, and his Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Georgia.

He served in the U. S. Air Force during the 1960’s.

Mr. Pulley was a project manager for the FMC Corp., Colmar, PA, for 10 years during the 1980’s and 1990’s. Then, he taught computer studies at the Allentown Business School for a number of years during the 1990’s.

An avid sports enthusiast, he contributed 25 years coaching softball and soccer, and serving as a certified softball umpire and soccer referee locally for the Deep Run Sports Association as well as regionally throughout Eastern Pennsylvania with EPYSA & PIAA High School Soccer and NSA and ASA Softball. He also trained soccer referees.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Rachel Olivia Pulley-Crowther and her husband David, of Salisbury, Wiltshire, United Kingdom, and Susan Renee Pulley, of Amsterdam, the Netherlands; a stepdaughter, Amy S. Cunningham, of North Carolina; three brothers, Charles Kirk, Barry Kirk and Kenneth Kirk, all of North Carolina; a half sister and brother, Susan Green and Jack Pulley, both of North Carolina.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA, with a brief Memorial Service to be held at 7:00 PM. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made with notation “In Memory of Vern Pulley” to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, 4 East First Street, Boiling Springs, PA 17007, or Deep Run Valley Sports Association, P.O. Box 380, Hilltown, PA 18927.
