Wilmer "Bud" Benner

Wilmer ďBudĒ Benner, of Holland and formerly of Dublin and Bloomsburg, PA, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, in St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA. He was 89.

He was the loving husband of 65 years of the late Grace (Harner) Benner who died August 1, 2008.

Born in Dublin, PA, he was the son of the late Henry Sr. and Anna (Scheetz) Benner. He appeared on the front cover of the Saturday Evening Post on July 13, 1946 modeling his Blacksmith trade.

In 1949, Mr. Benner relocated his wife and children to Westbury, Long Island, NY, where he was a fifth generation blacksmith, servicing Roosevelt Raceway in the warm months and relocating his family in the winter months to service Ben White Raceway in Orlando, FL.

In 1985, Bud and Grace built their retirement home and lived in Bloomsburg for the next 27 years.

In May of 2013, Mr. Bennerís eyesight failed him, and he moved back to Bucks County to be close to his children, at which time he moved into Twining Village.

He was a member of St. Peterís Lutheran Church, Danville, PA.

A member of the American Trotters Association and an avid outdoorsman, Mr. Benner loved farming, especially growing vegetables, as well as horseracing.

He is survived by six daughters, Grace Riondet, of Quakertown, PA, Marion Cowdery and her husband Stephen, of Gettysburg, PA, Dawn Dudash and her husband Frederick, of Cooperstown, NY, Robin Chasnov, of Lansdale, PA, Wilma Klevan and her husband Philip, of West Palm Beach, FL, and Brenda Burke, also of Lansdale; a son, Budd Benner and his wife Gail, of Columbus, NC; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother, Henry Benner, Jr. and his wife Lois, of Quakertown. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Chasnov, in 2010, and two sisters, Virginia Myers and Alma Turner.

His Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 12:00 Noon in St. Peterís Tohickon United Church of Christ, 1071 Old Bethlehem Road, Perkasie, PA, where family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in St. Lukeís Union Cemetery, Dublin, PA.
